Small Electrical Jobs: What They Are and Why Some Electricians Don't Like Them
Small electrical jobs are a vital part of the electrical industry. They are often seen as less desirable by some electricians, but they are an important part of the trade. In Weston-Super-Mare, Perform Electrical Services is one company that will take on these small jobs. We understand that some electricians don't like doing them because they are time-consuming and often low-paying, but we believe that every job is important, no matter how big or small!
So what is classed as a small job?
Generally, a small job is anything that takes an electrician less than two hours to complete. This could be something as simple as changing a lightbulb or replacing a fuse, or it could be something more complex like installing a new socket or fixing a wiring problem. We know that some electricians turn their noses up at small jobs. No matter what the job is, we believe that it should be given the same level of care and attention as any other electrical job!
Can I not just do some DIY?
Yes in theory you can, however, we don't recommend that you try and do any electrical work yourself, no matter how small it may be. If you're not an experienced electrician, then you could end up doing more harm than good! Always call in a professional when you need electrical work done. Many of our emergency fault find calls are from people who have tried to do their own electrical work and it has gone wrong. We have also written this blog, on 'Do's and Don'ts of DIY electrical repairs', which hopefully will aid you further. In addition to this, according to Electrical Saftey first, there are over 20,000 electrical fires every year! You definitely don't want to be part of that figure. Have a look at this document here if you want to read more about electrical fires.
How much will you charge?
Here at Perform Electrical Services, we offer a minimum charge rate. This makes it easier for our customers to know exactly how much they will be charged. If your job is covered under our minimum charge rate, we will let you know upfront how much it will be. If your job is likely to take us a bit longer, then we will give you a written quote detailing how much the total job will cost. We believe this is very important, as you should never be left in the dark about how much you will be charged!
As of September 2022 our minimum charge is currently £80.83+VAT, and covers things like a few faceplate replacements, replacing light bulbs, and also potentially replacing a light fitting, depending on the style of fitting you choose.
If you have any small electrical jobs that need doing, please don't hesitate to get in touch with us here at Perform Electrical Services on 01934 707 142. We would be more than happy to help! Thank you for reading.
